lyrics

Alone isn't new but that doesn't make it feel real
I stopped here tonight, just trying to steal
Love from the people who pass by me
And strength from the last leaf on the tree

Someone says, "look at that sad girl tonight"
My head down and lowly seems just 'bout right
My feet feel the things we don't see on the ground
Can't I stay dignified as the day I was found?

Will I go blind? Or turn to salt?
The bible says that's what'll come
So I glance at my past, sure
But don't stare right at it
The corner of my eye sees enough

If they can't see the tears, who is to say they are there?
You walking by me is the one thing I fear
So if you do, just glance, be polite as they come
Then I won't have to get up from this pillar and run

And dear, I'm here, but I can hardly sing
I glance over at you but I stare at her ring
You open the door, she smiles white and pure
And now I know the devil surely makes those shiny things

Will I go blind? Or turn to salt?
The bible says that's what'll come
So I glance at my past, sure
But don't stare right at it
The corner of my eye sees enough
